How cute is this guy? I actually thought he was retarded because he was so happy and silly. Those are both good things so don't think I was hating.
This lady's name is BLISS. No kidding. She said he father had waited a long time for a daughter. (left)

Have you spotted one of these cutie zero emission electric cars? At just over 8 feet in length the Xebra Xero and her truck brother the Xebra PK start at a comfortable $12,000.
In truth, these aren't for everyone, certainly not the freeway commuter who drives any farther than 40 miles a day. For millions of drivers who go for short trips around town, this could be the answer to high gas prices and eco-guilt.
Another option boosts the power so that climbing hills doesn't use up all of the juice. Xebras come in five fun colors - kiwi green, lipstick red, ocean blue and white, with an optional zebra stripe decal.
It gets harder to calculate how much your car's emissions effect the overall health of the planet. Some lawmakers think that raising gas taxes even higher will lower consumption. Bollocks! Get in now and you can be a trend setter and a do-gooder. Not only that but in a few years your gas money will have bought you a super cute car!

We were rolling through the Valencia corridor when my neck craned so far that Ben turned us around so we could catch this very sartorial guy. His name is Horace and he works for the Neapolitan house of Luigi Borrelli at their new digs in Union Square. He smoothly explained that they specialize in custom fit classic couture pieces made of the finest materials in the world. Can't you tell too? He was rocking Borelli head to toe.
I just love how the tips of his toes are darker, though I don't think it was intentional. Also, his shirt here is light lavender and that sweater is creamy tangerine, which is a natural combination but one I had never thought of. I think Scott Schuman would agree. Horace is one of the best dressed men in the City by the Bay.

When we visited Portland - the up and comeliest city in America, we stayed at the Ace Hotel. Sadly, we didn't take any photos of our room but it was cool. The window looked out onto the brick building cross the street, reminding us of New York. The glass encased shower stood feet from the bed quietly waiting for the day's private yet voyeuristic yet squeaky clean pleasure.
In fact, the Ace is a study in good design and clever re-uses for everyday objects such as the paint can turned bathroom wastebasket and turtle box turned nightstand. That's not to say that they skipped out on the niceties. Our shower was stocked with stocked with Malin + Goetz products and handmade soap slivers.
The bed had a super cool custom Pendleton blanket and tight white linens. There is an alcove above the front desk stocked with business supplies and magazines offering a fetching place to work.
Sunday morning started off right with Stumptown coffee. They have a cafe attached to the Ace. Many of you will know that the northwest is very, very into their coffee and Stumptown is by far the best cup of joe we have ever tasted. Coffee in hand we rolled back to the big green sectional to read the New York Times in peace while rock stars and hipster parents come down from their rooms to do the same. Arlo Guthrie crooned on the hi-fi. It was perfect.
The Ace is located at 1022 SW Stark Street in the heart of downtown Portland.

This is Portland based metal and print artist, Winifred. We caught her rocking one of her tshirt designs (pictured) that features veggie people on the front and junk food people hanging out on the back. We love the way the pizza and corn dog are so casually chilling. She was also wearing some of her skull fruit. Winifred is working her way through favorite foods which include (but not limited to) cupcakes, cherries, carrots, bananas, pizza featuring black diamond olives and grapes. This girl hand makes each one of her metal pieces from solid gold or sterling silver. She showed us her newest and cutest LOVE KNUCKLES and just completed a photo shoot to update her website, which should post in a couple of weeks. If you can't wait till then to order your Love Knuckles, contact Lady Winnifred here.

This sweet little number is known as Jikatabi or just Tabi. It was fashioned many years ago for Japanese roofers and electricians. Made from cotton and rubber Tabi's are still worn by workers today but most Gaijin believe them to be footwear for Ninja. We here at Cuteness Burger think they are perfect for the boys on the street who want to look neat, neat, neat. You can find a few varieties and even get socks to go with them here.

This lady was leisurely hanging out in the Tenderloin, just minding her own business swinging her purse around like a windmill. When Ben asked if he could get a shot she was just a shade flattered and wanted to do something funny. So this is her being funny. Cute, right?
We are back from Portland and will upload new photos as soon as we get a chance. So hold tight. We made it to Voodoo Donut in time for the street wedding of the century. The groom wore...well, just wait. It's good.

Cuteness Burger is on the road in Oregon. We were on the coast for a few days but there weren't any Cuteness Burgers for us to capture in our digital memory, thus no posts. We are now in Portland, which many of you will know is full of Cuteness Burgers. We'll be back with new photos next week. Till then Burgers, rock that cuteness like it's Prince's coronation and you are joining the Revolution.

Have you ever asked yourself where Audrey Hepburn's sunglasses came from? In every one of her movies she sported different yet enigmatic eyewear. The answer is...Oliver Goldsmith. Hepburn along with other icons of the 20th century that include Princess Grace Kelly, John Lennon, Ursula Andress, Olivia Newton John, The Rolling Stones and many, many others created their signature styles with the help of their OG's.
In fact, it was OG to bring eyewear to the fashion table. Prior to that spectacles were only worn to improve faulty vision and coated with tint to protect eyes from the sun. In 1935 Charles Goldsmith entered the family firm bringing with him a new idea, that glasses could be in fashion, particularly when worn as sunglasses. Vogue, Queen, Dior, Givenchy and other fashion heavy-weights relied on Goldsmith's to bring the freshest frames to the game. That they did indeed and continue to do so. (Thank GOD too! They ceased production for 20 years!)
OG is now run by Claire Goldsmith, great granddaughter of the man who founded P. Oliver Goldsmith Ltd in 1926. The brand has ready-to-wear available at these locations in the USA. Then there is the couture line: hundreds of classic OG designs, spanning from the silky 1940’s to the circular 1970’s, entirely recreated by hand. You can have frames custom made to fit you perfectly, then choose material colors and lens colors. To get on it, make an appointment to visit the Notting Hill showroom in London. Fabrication takes about 3 weeks. Prices start at £230.00. ($450 current conversion)"I don’t believe in those theories about a certain style suiting a certain shape of face. Life is too short to worry about such things. If you find a shape you like, have it.”Oliver Goldsmith, 1969

So we didn't get any photos of Tussle or Donuts, but they were there...sprinkled, cream filled, maple icing, all in the house. The girl pictured above throws the Donuts night at The Knockout. There were plenty of people in black or wearing jeans. If you are reading this you may already to hip to the fact that we don't take a lot of photos of people in jeans or all black. Now a black Puch with Nike swooshes adorning the gas tank we can be down with. This little moped was so souped up it almost looked dangerous.

I saw this couple the other day at Britex. I don't know what they were shopping for but the sales staff was all aflutter about something the woman was wearing. A necklace I think. We popped these photos at the Alameda flea market on two separate occasions. We love that they have such a definitive style as a couple no less. Long live the O.G. hippies!

This is great spring uniform. For one thing it keeps cherished boots out of their sleeper bags a bit longer. The shirt has fantastic detailing. The flipped up collar has a ruffled edge and all that great embroidery. What I really love is that it is all black so that the detail becomes part of the texture. Rocking the ethnic necklace on the outside feels really fresh. She layered on brass bracelets. (Brass is something to be on the look out for. Very chic again, but if you wear it be sure to keep it polished or it will rub all sorts of tarnish off onto your skin.) The nail art throws the balance off and makes a good case for either bold graphic nail art or none at all.

We found this video on You Tube and had to share the cuteness rarely seen above deep-sea level. The little bugger's proper name is Stauroteuthis syrtensis Grimpoteuthis, I think? It's common name is Dumbo octopus for those little ear looking flippers that help it swim. The other nom de mer it is known by that is just bad marketing - Vampire Octopus. It has little stingers down a line on either sides of it's suckers. They measure 1-5 inches and eat worms, sea snails and other tiny gross things. Totally not a vampire, but if it were it would be the cutest of all vampires. And that's a fact.
Since I didn't make the video I can't cut it down to a shorter, sweeter size but it does feature a yellow submarine and one of my favorite songs by Duran Duran, The Chauffeur. So do try to watch it long enough to see the cuteness below the sea.

Bodo Sperlein. File his name in the mental rolodex. He's a British designer specializing in porcelain. He recently paired up with Spanish porcelain mogul, LLadro to create Re-Cyclos Magical. Sperlein is the first outside artist to team up with Lladro and what a perfect first! Lladro is known for figurines...figurines that sentanagerians consider lovely. Bodo's contributions are beyond lovely. They are graceful, timeless object's d'arte. The cuff links would be a perfect gift for a bride groom on his wedding day - luxe, classic and none too pricey at $125.
This is Bodo's pop hit. That's right, he designed the Agent Provocateur bottle.

We had so much fun watching the models come off the runway back stage at Sephora Presents Fashion Week Live that we wanted to make an animated gif for thee ole blogge. Unfortunately those things are better suited for little files on super fast repeat. We tried a slide show but that didn't work the way we imagined either. (Time for a techie intern?) Well, we think these mash ups convey the sense of urgency the gals felt as they raced off the catwalk and back to the dressing area to change into their next looks. In front of the cameras and on lookers they look so cool and collected. It was Gemma Ward with the cutest expressions of them all. Total CUTENESS BURGERS!!!

The Brooklyn Bridge, one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States, can now become an iconic part of your neckline. Fashioned by Tilly Bloom, an artist from Brooklyn the pendant comes with a 16" sterling silver chain. How does she do it for $18? I can't tell how big the pendant is. I would like to think it is biggish, like 3" long, but it seems smallish from the chain to pendant ratio.
"Each pendant is individually and lovingly hand drawn on strong, clear acrylic resin, a tricky and intricate process which results in a one-of-a-kind, wearable piece of art. A matte varnish is applied for strength and durability..." says the Tilly Bloom entry on Etsy.

The above love comes courtesy of House of Hengst, designed by Susan Hengst. The name can be a bit tricky to remember but the fashion is not. Hengst is an up and comer recently-ish translpanted from San Francisco to NYC. She is a fabric junky and cuts only the best weaves. The Brigid coat (not shown) is made from some amazing wool. I itch at the mention of woolens and I could use this coat as a bathrobe. No kidding. It's that soft. The flagship store in the tender Mission district of San Francisco. It is a bastion of noble high wasted trousers and irresistable silk jersey tunics (currently). What you see here will be available early to mid-March. The website doesn't have a store so you have to call in a mail order.

The Bonfire Snowboarding Company asked Kelly Tunstall to create textile designs for these jackets. Bonfire chose this print of arrows, kissing birds and bird houses. Kelly says she used the song, "Neighborhood" by Arcade Fire as her inspiration. It works out as kind of 80's, kind of graffiti, super cool.
Kelly gave me a sample last winter, which I wore to the Sundance festival in Park City. That jacket got lots of action and plenty of compliments. It is stylee and technical with all kinds of bells and whistles including "ear toaster panels", water proofing and an interior pocket for an ipod shuffle. See the white dots in 2 of the photos pictured above? Those are controls for the shuffle.

We don't collect these things but if we did, we'd be in piggy heaven at our local flea markets. Crackle and Pop have a crazy look in their eyes, no? The bobble heads are featured in our Valentine's Day post, where you can see them kiss thanks to little magnets in their lips. Lastly, Snoopy. He's always been the cutest character of all comics to me. Snoopy is also the best ghetto nickname, second to Baby Juice.

I saw these little ladies getting off the bus on Valentine's Day. They were both carrying shopping bags, had scarves on their heads and were sort of holding hands. They couldn't have been more than 5 feet tall. Cuteness Burgers! When I asked for a photo they demurred, saying in Spanish that they were old and ugly. I pleaded that they were super cute, also in Spanish and once my camera was out they agreed. The lady in red pants ripped the scarf off her head before I could get the shot but this does the trick, doesn't it?

We have been back and forth about Valentine's Day here at Cuteness Burger. While we hate the mega-marketing that began in January in the states, we love love. After all, what's wrong with a holiday that is celebrated by chocolate, saucy knickers, champagne and sex? What's wrong with a day we are reminded to tell the people we love how we feel?
Cuteness Burger Loves You!!!

Cuteness Burger loves flea markets. We wonder at the grab bag of goods and characters buying/selling them. Our hunting and gathering in flea markets accross the globe has provided many gems throughout the years.
Mister Cutie Pie (above) was drinking warm gin at 10 in the morning. He insisted on having his photo taken with that little bottle. We love his pork pie hat and tasseled loafers.
The porcelain doll parts (middle) came from Germany. It seems the old factory where the dolls were made is being sifted through for the castaways. Cal Goddard was selling them at the Alameda flea market last week. He has an awesome Ebay store specializing in antique prints.

Sars On Mars is a brilliant name for a young Angelino jewelry designer. The giant puffy gold diamond has my heart all a'bling. The 3 inch double unicorn-lightening bolt-crowned with a heart covers all the key elements of 80's cuteness. Lastly the heart with "i love you" typed out could be a sweet little Valentine to be worn year round. The gold plated pieces found on Stars and Infinite Darkness are $9o each.

We caught this handsome young man was walking across the street in Union Square. We love his hipster intellectual look and the way his shoes are the same color as his hair. He could go almost anywhere in this outfit without being over or under dressed. Isn't that the goal?

Thank you Jeremy Scott for addressing swimwear. Thank you for mixing the frivolous business of frock hocking with a message of freedom. These pieces are some of the best we've ever seen come down your runways. (Of course we are still obsessing over that ice cream dress.) We love you!

Lela Rose is seriously rocking the socialite scene. Her line is solid season after season. She is making pretty, comfortable classic pieces that won't fall out of style when the mighty tomes declair the end of the trapeeze. She showed in the tents at Bryant Park today and the new looks are just as classic. These are our picks for spring/summer.

Cuteness Burger just loves THREEASFOUR. These are our picks from the latest ready-to-wear line from the triple. The prints are fantastic and used endlessly in ways that develop one's esthetic from interesting to edgy and enchanting.

This is the lovely Michelle. Her hair stopped Cuteness Burger dead in our tracks. It turns out that forever hipster, Julia from diPietro Todd does it. The black leather velvet burnout Miu Miu satchel is tops.

We saw this handsome young man twice. The second time Ben ran to catch this photo. We think he purchased this bike, but the look was his from the start.

This is Hedwig, pronounced so beautifully in her native French as Ed-veeej, a set designer from New York. We love her neck tattoo and boyish charm.

Even Cuteness Burgers need a break from city life so we packed our bags and headed down to the Mayan Riviera. The boutique hotel in Playa Del Carmen we checked into, Mosquito Beach served as a welcome home base. We especially liked the Bulgari au Thé Vert bath products and hit the super sexy shower at least twice a day. Every morning we would walk 30 yards to the beach club where Carlos, our favorite man in white had lounge chairs with our names on them. The ingenious lounges were of note due to their movable shades to cover one's face while allowing the sun to do it's vitamin-D magic. We drank pina coladas, swam for hours and in the evening went to dine. The hippest eatery was Marisqueria at the Hotel Basico. There are plenty of night clubs in PDC but Cuteness Burger wasn't in the mood for loads of borrachos and wannabe Hooters girls.
We saved cuteness energy for lovelier things. We saw parrot fish the color of macaws whose little fins flapped like liquid butterfly wings on a trip under the sea. Tourism is not lovely however. Out-of-towners are caravaned by the dozens to anything that sounds remotely interesting rendering them over-crowded and unnatural. To be unhindered by peddlers and loud talkers, we recommend setting off on an adventure by getting private transportation to beaches and reefs where you can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Cuteness Burger especially loves the sound of the ocean and wind through the palm trees. Oh yes!

These two New York cuties have similar hairdos and both look so good. Curly hair + shag = rock. We really love the way they both have a definitive personal style that doesn't look store bought. Methinks miss girl on top is the uber rocking fashion designer, Laura Dawson wearing now collectable pieces from pre-split As Four.

These dolls (action figures?) were on display at the Kira Kira Japan Project store. They look like castaways from the land of yellow submarines. I wish I had more info about them. Alas, all I can do is show their rock and roll pouty doll glory.

Cuteness Burger was invited to the opening of the Kirakira Japan Project store in the Hanayashki Mall. The walls were painted neon pink, casting a phosphorescent glow everywhere. The clothes were fashioned after famous faces of people such as John Lennon and Connie Chung. You'd have to slip a hit of acid in thee ole martini to get me to wear a giant fleece cape that looks not unlike Sponge Bob, but I'm no Furry. Never one to dis on true originality, Cuteness Burger fully supports anyone who can rock it right. More photos from Kira Kira in the next post.

The golden shoes ($50) are one of my favorite scores from Tokyo. They came from a shop called Romantic Standard where we went a little crazy. We love that they put them in a plastic bag rather than a big bulky box. The gold and black lacquer necklace ($10) came from a little flea market in Kawasaki. Lastly, the reflective shoes in action, on the heals of super-hot pink tights ($10) which came from a shop in Shibuya-ku. The lesson here is that Tokyo isn't as pricey as people say and pink+gold=CUTENESS!

Okay, manikin faces swathed in gauze, suffocating in plastic bags may not be cute. They are edgy as hell and perfect for a rainy day - so they get the cuteness seal of approval.

A full set of acrylic nails cost no less than $100 US dollars in Tokyo. What the nail techs in Oakland and The Bronx could get paid for their airbrush skills is anyone's guess. However, the above 3-D designs are sculptured with acrylic. How do they do it?

So you have someone you have to buy a gift for and they are impossible to shop for...adopt a herd of African elephants or a momma leopard and her cub from the World Wildlife Fund. The cuteness burger giraffe at the top is only $25! They'll even send a plush likeness and photo. http://shop.awf.org/adopt/

These two kids have a look going on that exemplify the Gothic New Wave mash up happening in Tokyo right now. It's sweet, dark and dreamy. Colors are not a part of the look generally. I love the girl's tiny shoe purse. Her outfit would have been spot on without it, but with it...she wins the prize for best outfit of the day. And in Shibuya, that's saying something.

This is our first post, something that's been an idea for a while. Now we are ready, serious about thee CUTENESS! It abounds all around and inspires us every day. It was in Tokyo that Cuteness Burger first entered our minds because, well the Japanese are the pandas of the human race. So cute! In that light, we present the first of our street photos taken in Tokyo, September 2006.
