Spring Uniform - Tokyo

This is great spring uniform. For one thing it keeps cherished boots out of their sleeper bags a bit longer. The shirt has fantastic detailing. The flipped up collar has a ruffled edge and all that great embroidery. What I really love is that it is all black so that the detail becomes part of the texture. Rocking the ethnic necklace on the outside feels really fresh. She layered on brass bracelets. (Brass is something to be on the look out for. Very chic again, but if you wear it be sure to keep it polished or it will rub all sorts of tarnish off onto your skin.) The nail art throws the balance off and makes a good case for either bold graphic nail art or none at all.

I can imagine this outfit in multiple varieties by swapping shorts and button downs, adding layers like a cardigan or snug blazer and a hand bag. The most important thing is to add your own flavor. This young lady's look is very earthy while also playing up her urban lifestyle. Good show!

Delicious!

We caught up with this cute little ice cream-sandwich-wearing girl on the streets of Tokyo. Her chic was accentuated by her baubles which were all in the forms of sweet treats, all the way to her finger nails. In the upcoming posts we will be featuring other food based fashions. Hold on to your cookies!

Kira Kira Project

Cuteness Burger was invited to the opening of the Kirakira Japan Project store in the Hanayashki Mall. The walls were painted neon pink, casting a phosphorescent glow everywhere. The clothes were fashioned after famous faces of people such as John Lennon and Connie Chung. You'd have to slip a hit of acid in thee ole martini to get me to wear a giant fleece cape that looks not unlike Sponge Bob, but I'm no Furry. Never one to dis on true originality, Cuteness Burger fully supports anyone who can rock it right. More photos from Kira Kira in the next post.

Romantic Standard

The golden shoes ($50) are one of my favorite scores from Tokyo. They came from a shop called Romantic Standard where we went a little crazy. We love that they put them in a plastic bag rather than a big bulky box. The gold and black lacquer necklace ($10) came from a little flea market in Kawasaki. Lastly, the reflective shoes in action, on the heals of super-hot pink tights ($10) which came from a shop in Shibuya-ku. The lesson here is that Tokyo isn't as pricey as people say and pink+gold=CUTENESS!

Rainy Day Retail Display

Okay, manikin faces swathed in gauze, suffocating in plastic bags may not be cute. They are edgy as hell and perfect for a rainy day - so they get the cuteness seal of approval.

Tokyo Nail Pop

A full set of acrylic nails cost no less than $100 US dollars in Tokyo. What the nail techs in Oakland and The Bronx could get paid for their airbrush skills is anyone's guess. However, the above 3-D designs are sculptured with acrylic. How do they do it?

Stoner Chic

Full lengths, hemp, afro puffs & hand-made baubles; these are the things Japanese hippies r-o-c-k.

What's black, white and red all over?

CUTENESS BURGERS!
More from the streets of Tokyo. Fashion sources are saying black and white is the latest trend to follow. These kids all prove that it's nothing new but something we can all work.

Note to the ladies: if you want to emulate the cuteness of the Japanese chicks, point your toes inward when posing. Some may say it's submissive but they might just be waiting to tie you up and whip you with their corsette strings.

Over Fifty Hipster

CUTENESS BURGER!!!
This man was really cool, a reporter researching the historic beginnings of the Shibuya district of Tokyo. It's hard to believe he is over 50. Why do the Japanese age so well? His Nike's were SICK!

Ready...Set...Go!!!

This is our first post, something that's been an idea for a while. Now we are ready, serious about thee CUTENESS! It abounds all around and inspires us every day. It was in Tokyo that Cuteness Burger first entered our minds because, well the Japanese are the pandas of the human race. So cute! In that light, we present the first of our street photos taken in Tokyo, September 2006.
